The students of Citadel High expected to go home after fourth period. But life outside is obliterated and replaced with a barren wasteland. It takes several waves of panicky teens fleeing the building and being incinerated by pillars of flames from the sky before the survivors realize they are trapped in the school. There are no teachers. Factions form. The strong prey on the weak. Cafeteria food becomes the currency. Those who control it have the power.

Amanda, a once aspiring journalism student, wants to help the weak. Owen, a hardened freshman who’s endured years of bullying, wants to remain alone to survive the badlands that have taken over the hallways. Amanda depends on Owen to keep a small group of survivors alive. But Owen doesn’t want to help.

The situation deteriorates further when cannibalized bodies are found. Amanda and Owen quickly discover that the remaining students are not alone.
